From Angela Palmer, your Guide to Acne

In addition to topical treatments and oral acne medications, procedural treatments like chemical peels and light treatments are sometimes used to treat acne.

Since there is a lot of curiosity surrounding these types of procedures (as well as misinformation) I thought we'd take a look at some of these professional treatments this week.

~ Angela

Light Duty Chemical Peels
These are generally where most people start when they want a chemical peel done. They're also called "lunchtime peels." and can be performed at the salon or your dermatologist's office.

What To Expect During a Microdermabrasion Treatment
Microdermabrasion is another way to have a powerful exfoliation done. The technician can also do pore-cleansing extractions making this a double-whammy of a treatment.

Photodynamic Therapy Light Treatments
Microdermabrasion and light-duty peels are OK for mild to moderate breakouts, but aren't the best choices for more serious forms of acne. In this case, photodynamic therapy (PDT) may be something your dermatologist recommends.

Acne Treatments at the Medi-Spa
"Spa" treatments are becoming more popular as ways to help clear the skin. Here are some of the treatments you may find at your local medi-spa.

From Angela Palmer, your Guide to Acne

They say you are what you eat, but what role does diet really play in acne development? Let's take a look at this topic this week.

~ Angela

Does Greasy Food Cause Acne?
French fries and pizza are the next to get the blame for breakouts. But do greasy, fried foods really make your skin more oily?

Milk and Acne
Another staple that's come under fire -- milk. While more research needs to be done, some believe dairy products are linked to acne severity.

Carbs and Acne
Actually, some research points more to high-glycemic index foods. That means cake, cookies, and white bread might be on your list of no-no foods if you want clear skin.

Does Chocolate Cause Acne?
Of course, we couldn't leave out chocolate. This delectable treat has been an acne scapegoat for decades. I've got good news for you chocolate lovers out there.

From Angela Palmer, your Guide to Acne

We've all done it, even though we know we shouldn't. But sometimes it's hard not to pop that pimple.

Here are some articles that will explain exactly what happens when you pop that zit (plus a trick to help drain whiteheads without resorting to popping.)

~ Angela

Is Popping Pimples Really That Bad for My Skin?
We've all done our fair share of popping, and so far haven't seen any permanent damage. So, is popping pimples really all that bad for the skin?

Why Do We Pop Pimples?
The funny thing is, even though we know we shouldn't pop pimples we're still compelled to do it. A dermatologist and psychologist explains why.

Is It OK to Squeeze Blackheads?
Of course, if you've ever had a facial done, the esthetician will immediately start squeezing your blackheads. What's up with that?

Instead of Popping, Try This Trick
Of course, nobody wants to walk around all day with a big whitehead on their face. So, when I've got that massive zit, I use this trick. It helps gently drain the pimple without resorting to popping.
