Let's take five minutes to see this week in a new light. & Amy Morin, LCSW, Editor-in-Chief Top of Mind Though there's greater awareness and acceptance around therapy today compared to the past, there's still this floating idea that it's only meant for people who really need help. The reality is that therapy can help anyone, including couples madly in love, happy families, and thriving individuals.
Ultimately, the goal of therapy is to help us understand ourselves better, work through complex feelings, and equip ourselves with healthy coping mechanisms for life's everyday curveballs. How Therapy Works Therapy looks different for everyone. Some people go several times a week while others choose to go once a month. Some prefer to consistently see a therapist over the course of a few months to work through a specific trauma while others make it a lifelong practice.
Whatever pace you prefer and personal goals you set, your therapist can help guide you by asking the right questions, validating your feelings, and serving as a nonjudgmental ear to your thoughts.
Therapy costs range from $50 to $200 per session depending on your location, as well as the structure and length of your sessions. If cost is an issue, consider seeking a therapy service that offers sliding scale payments. Many therapists offer virtual services, and there are even online therapy services.
