We Didn’t Know Meditation Could Do This

A University of Pittsburgh study of 300 older adults has found that a regular meditation habit may offer relief to seniors suffering from chronic lower back pain. Study author Dr. Natalia Morone noted that as patients practiced mindfulness meditation and tried to remain focused on the present moment, they found they experienced less pain and a short-term improvement in physical function. More than half of adults older than 65 suffer from chronic pain and it's usually in the back. Since medication side effects are more common and risky in that age group, the researchers may have uncovered an essential piece of the senior health puzzle.
