From Angela Palmer, your Guide to Acne

Protecting your skin from the sun is one of the best things you can do to combat aging.  (Did you know 90% of all aging is caused by the sun?  Wow!)

But when you're acne prone, it's super scary to put anything on the skin because it might trigger a breakout.  If we're careful, though, we can give our skin some sun protection while fighting blemishes.

Until next week,

Angela

About Acne: Isotretinoin: What You Need to Know

Skin Care

From Angela Palmer, your Guide to Acne

I remember, not too many years ago, Accutane was the treatment everyone wanted.  It didn't matter that they only had one or two pimples.  Accutane (AKA isotretinoin) was the "cure" and they wanted it.

Today, there seems to be a shift in thinking.  Most people don't want to take isotretinoin medications even if they're good candidates for it.

Isotretinoin isn't for everyone, but in some cases it's the best treatment we've got.  So, let's take a closer look at this medication.  I hope it helps you decide if it's a good fit, or not so great an option, for you.

Angela

What Is Isotretinoin?

Isotretinoin is best known as Accutane, but it's also sold under the brand names Sotret, Amnesteem, and Roaccutane.  Here are the basic facts about this oral acne medication.

What Are the Side Effects?
Although isotretinoin is the closest thing we have to a cure for acne, it can cause side effects.  Before you start your treatment, make sure you understand what they are.

What Is iPledge?
Here in the U.S., if you're taking any isotretinoin medication, you must register with the iPledge Program.  What is that, you ask?  Here's a overview of what you must do before you can get your prescription.

Alternative Treatments for Severe Acne
If isotretinoin isn't a good option for you, or if you simply don't want to take it, there are other medications that can help improve even serious acne breakouts.  Some of these might be a better fit for you.
